We are excited to introduce our new Simple Will benefit in your CC 175 Legal Plan. Creating a will is now more straightforward, user-friendly, and still completely free.
Here’s what to expect:
Step-By Step Online Questionnaire
To create your will, the new online process will cover these key sections:
- Basics: General profile information, marital status, and address.
- Nominees: Immediate family setup, including designating guardians for minors and adding specific provisions or financial care for pets.
- Assets: An approximate estate valuation overview to ensure the plan fits the user’s financial landscape.
- Residuary: Selecting primary and secondary beneficiaries to inherit the estate, as well as optional charitable bequests.
- Gifts: Legally setting aside specific items, vehicles, or cash pots for specific individuals or organizations to inherit.
- Funeral Wishes: Outlining preferences for final arrangements and naming a funeral executor so family members aren’t left guessing.
- Provisions: Naming a formal executor for the will, selecting digital executors for online assets, and choosing whether to include legal safeguards like a “no-contest clause.”
How to Make It Legally Binding
After completing the form, it generates a state-specific document that must be finalized offline. Make sure you:
- Download & Print: Members download the completed PDF directly or have it emailed to them.
- Follow the Instructions: FreeWill prints a custom instruction cover sheet mapping out the user’s state-specific rules.
- Sign with Witnesses: Members must sign the physical copy in front of 2 or 3 witnesses, depending on state laws.
Will Add-Ons Are Included
A solid estate plan requires more than a will. After completing the questionnaire, you have the option to add three other essential legal forms:
- Advanced Healthcare Directive (Living Will): Appoints a medical proxy and details your end-of-life healthcare choices if you cannot speak for yourself.
- Durable Financial Power of Attorney: Designates a trusted person to manage bills, accounts, and financial choices if you become incapacitated.
- Beneficiary Designations: Walks members through organizing assets that standard wills don’t cover (such as 401(k)s, IRAs, and life insurance policies).
